Three-Vehicle Collision on Rupert Craig Highway — No Fatalities Reported

Police are investigating a serious three-vehicle accident that occurred around 09:00 hrs today along the Rupert Craig Highway, in the vicinity of the University of Guyana Access Road, East Coast Demerara.

The collision involved hire car Number HD 3223, owned and driven by 63-year-old Neil Lewis of Sisters Village, East Bank Berbice (who had two male passengers at the time); motor car Number PAK 9877, owned and driven by Kamel Daniels; and motor car #PMM 3778, driven by Narayan Sikandar.

According to police investigations, Daniels was proceeding east along the northern lane of the highway at a fast rate when, near the UG Access Road, he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved across the concrete median separating the two carriageways and collided head-on with Sikandar’s vehicle, which was heading west on the southern lane. The impact pushed Sikandar’s vehicle into the right front portion of the hire car being driven by Lewis, which was also heading west.

All three vehicles sustained extensive damage.

The drivers of the three vehicles and the two occupants of the hire car suffered various injuries. Public-spirited citizens rushed to the scene and transported the injured to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

Sikandar, the driver of motor car Number PMM 3778, was admitted with a fractured right arm. The other individuals were treated for chest pains and facial lacerations. Their conditions have been reported as stable.

Police investigations are ongoing.
