A tragic accident over the weekend has resulted in the death of Kendel Lewis, a minibus tout from Ann’s Grove, following a collision between his electric bicycle and a motor vehicle. Eyewitness accounts and social media reports indicate that the incident occurred near the Ann’s Grove bridge shortly after nightfall on Saturday night.

As of Sunday evening, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) had not issued an official statement regarding the incident, and attempts to reach the divisional commander for further details were unsuccessful.
An eyewitness, who captured a video and shared his observations on Facebook, recounted his experience while driving in the area. He reported seeing Lewis riding his electric bicycle and swerving across the road. The cautious driver honked his horn in an attempt to alert Lewis to keep closer to the roadside, as the bicycle appeared to be moving toward the center of the road.
After passing Lewis, the eyewitness continued towards the bridge and stopped to turn onto a side road. According to his account, a black Toyota Allion approached from the opposite direction at a high speed. As he waited for the vehicle to pass, Lewis rode behind his parked car. The eyewitness believes that neither Lewis nor the car driver saw each other until the moment of impact. “We just heard a loud bang,” he stated, noting that when he arrived at the scene, Lewis was lying in the road, bleeding from the back of his head.
The witness highlighted that the area was dark and poorly lit, suggesting this may have contributed to the crash. Contrary to some claims circulating online, he mentioned that the driver of the car did not flee the scene but remained present until family members of Lewis arrived.
Emergency services transported Lewis to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. As investigations are ongoing, police have yet to provide a formal account of the incident or confirm the details of how the collision occurred.
