A family’s Christmas celebration turned into a tragedy as the lifeless body of two-year-old Zoria Seegobin was recovered from a trench at her grandparents’ home in Grant Atlas, Lower Pomeroon River, early on Christmas Day.

According to reports, Zoria was initially brought to her grandparents’ residence from her home in Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD), on Monday to celebrate the holiday. The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, shortly after Zoria’s grandfather, Terrence Chase, returned from a birthday party and went to take a bath in the nearby canal around 2:00 AM.
At that time, Zoria’s grandmother left the home briefly to use the washroom, leaving the child asleep. Upon returning approximately 15 minutes later, the grandparents discovered that Zoria was missing.
A frantic alarm was raised, leading to the formation of a search party. However, initial efforts to locate the child proved unsuccessful. It was only after an extended search that Zoria was found submerged in the trench located in the yard.
Witnesses reported that when her body was discovered, it was still moving slightly. Despite immediate attempts to administer CPR, Zoria did not regain consciousness. She was rushed to the Charity Cottage Hospital, where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Authorities examined the child’s body and reported that no visible marks of violence were found. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Zoria Seegobin’s tragic death is currently ongoing as the community mourns the loss of a young life during what should have been a joyful holiday.
