Four men have tragically died following suspected chemical exposure aboard a cargo barge docked at a wharf on Water Street, Georgetown. The identities of the deceased have yet to be confirmed, but reports indicate that they include the vessel’s captain and two dock workers.

According to initial reports, the incident occurred when the men entered the engine room at the bottom of the barge to investigate a suspected leak. While inside, they were exposed to harmful chemicals and collapsed.
An alarm was raised shortly thereafter, and the affected individuals were removed from the engine room and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in an unconscious state.
Police are currently on the scene conducting investigations into the incident.
