Former National Cycling Champion Alanzo Greaves tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident late Wednesday night on Mandela Avenue, just behind the Botanical Gardens.
According to investigators at the scene, Greaves was riding his motorcycle when he may have lost control after encountering a dump of mud on the roadway. The impact pitched him onto the road, leading to the fatal incident.
This is not the first time Greaves has faced serious danger on the road. A few years ago, he sustained critical injuries in an early morning motorcycle accident on Vlissengen Road, where he also lost control while riding at high speed. That accident forced him to end his cycling career.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding last night’s crash, and more details are expected to emerge.
