HGP Nightly News Reports | Jomel Kenny, a 23-year-old truck driver charged in connection with the deadly multi-vehicle collision on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, has been granted bail in the amount of two million dollars. Kenny appeared in the Diamond Magistrates’ Court today, facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving, among other related offences.

Kenny is represented by attorney Everton Singh-Lammy, and the case has been adjourned until April 2.
The charges stem from a tragic incident on the bridge that resulted in the death of 24-year-old taxi driver Scott Dorwart from Grove, East Bank Demerara. Several others were also injured in the crash.
Following the incident, Kenny was initially brought before the court on charges including driving without a license, breach of insurance regulations, and faulty loading of the truck, leading to his remand in custody.
In addition to Kenny, the truck’s owner, 55-year-old Antonio Johnson from Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, has also been charged. Johnson faces charges related to breach of insurance and permitting an unlicensed individual to operate the vehicle. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail set at $50,000.
The case continues to unfold as the authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
