Wesley Nelson, a 28-year-old gold miner from Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, was sentenced to two months of imprisonment and fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Nelson was arrested at the Itaballi Police Checkpoint on June 28, 2025, and was charged the following day under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
During his appearance at the Bartica Magistrates Court before His Worship Teriq Mohamed, the charge was read to him, and he entered a guilty plea. The court imposed the two-month sentence along with the monetary fine.
This case highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region.
