Two Berbice Men Remanded After Cannabis Bust in East Demerara

Two men from Berbice were remanded to prison following their arrest during a police operation on Thursday at Strathspey Public Road, East Demerara. The men, Travis Thomas, 35, of Glasgow Village, and Trendy Forde, 31, of Heath Burn, were charged with possession of 21.5 kilograms of cannabis.

When the charges were read to them in Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Friday, both men pleaded not guilty. Magistrate Sunil Scare remanded them to prison until March 2, 2026.

According to reports, ranks from Regional Division #4 ‘C’ were conducting an operation when they intercepted a motor vehicle occupied by the two men. A search of the vehicle revealed a bulky salt bag containing two plastic-wrapped parcels of cannabis. The narcotics were subsequently weighed at the Cove and John Police Station, confirming a total of 21.5 kilograms.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to address drug-related offenses in the region.
