Wickham disclosed the matter on Wednesday while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event, confirming that both the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Fire Service are actively looking into the incident.

“Yes, we have had issue of that, or matter of fact, we had reports of that, and so the police are dealing with all of those issues,” Wickham said.

When pressed specifically about the fire officers involved, he indicated that while they have not been detained, they remain accessible to investigators.

“The police are dealing with all of that. They are not still detained. The police can access that at any time. The procedure is working,” he said.

Wickham added that the Guyana Fire Service has launched its own internal review running parallel to the police investigation, and signalled that disciplinary consequences could follow for those found culpable.

“We are doing the investigation and upon conclusion of that, the procedure will work to ensure that we rid ourselves of any such persons,” he stated.

In a development that may assist both investigations, Wickham confirmed that the stolen laptop has since been returned to its owner.
