Two Men Arrested After 21.5 Kilograms of Cannabis Seized by Police

Two men were arrested on Thursday following a police operation that resulted in the seizure of 21.5 kilograms (approximately 47 pounds) of cannabis.

According to a police release, the cannabis was discovered around 09:00 hours during a routine patrol along Strathspey Public Road in East Demerara.

Law enforcement officials intercepted a motorcar driven by a 35-year-old man from Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice, along with a 31-year-old male passenger, a construction worker from Heathburn, East Bank Berbice.

A search of the vehicle’s trunk revealed a bulky bag that contained two large plastic-wrapped parcels filled with leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis.

Both the driver and the passenger were informed of the offense, cautioned, and subsequently arrested. They were taken into custody and escorted to the Cove and John Police Station, along with the suspected narcotics and the vehicle. The cannabis was weighed, marked, sealed, and properly lodged for further investigation.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing as authorities pursue leads related to this incident.
