Two men are in police custody following the discovery of a Taurus .32 pistol and eight live matching rounds in a motor vehicle parked at Croal Street, Stabroek, Georgetown, on Saturday evening.

According to police reports, officers from the CID Anti-Crime Patrol made the find around 19:40h near the Route 40 Minibus Park. The vehicle was parked with several males standing nearby.

Upon initial inquiries, no individuals immediately claimed ownership of the vehicle or its driver. However, police conducted a thorough search and uncovered the weapon and ammunition concealed in a compartment beneath the radio deck.

A 26-year-old bus conductor from Sideline Dam, Buxton, was subsequently identified as the vehicle’s driver. When questioned about the firearm, he denied holding a license for it and was promptly cautioned and arrested.

Shortly after, a 32-year-old businessman from South Ruimveldt, identified as the vehicle’s owner, arrived at the scene and was also taken into custody.

Both suspects were escorted to the Brickdam Police Station, and the motor vehicle has been lodged for further examination. The firearm and ammunition have been marked, tagged, and handed over to the Ballistic Section for processing.

Authorities are currently working to locate a third individual involved in the incident as investigations continue.
