Two Minibus Drivers Fined $160,000 for Dangerous Driving on Rupert Craig Highway

Two minibus drivers faced charges and substantial fines for dangerous driving incidents that occurred on the Rupert Craig Highway on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, between 09:00 hrs and 09:45 hrs.

Steffon Welch, a resident of Lot 125 Eastville, Annandale Housing Scheme, and Trenton Europe, of Lot 69, Block 20, Enmore Haslington, East Coast Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Mr. Nurse at the Sparendamm Magistrate’s Court. Both drivers pleaded guilty after the charges were presented.

Welch, who operates minibus registration BAG 6768, was fined $120,000 for three counts of dangerous driving. Meanwhile, Europe, driving minibus registration BAE 2338, was fined $40,000 for one count of dangerous driving. The total fines imposed amounted to $160,000.

During the same court session, matters involving nine additional minibus drivers were scheduled, but no appearances were made. Consequently, these drivers have been summoned to appear before the court on February 13, 2026. The individuals include:
