Two NDMA Employees Fired, Charges Pending After Forging Minister’s Signature on Tint Waiver Permits

Two employees of the National Data Management Authority (NDMA) have been dismissed after being caught fraudulently using the signature of Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond to grant tint waiver permits to themselves and at least one other individual.

Minister Walrond confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stating that criminal charges will be filed against the two men.

The breach was uncovered through a routine audit system at the Ministry of Home Affairs. Technical staff conduct audits each evening and the following morning, reviewing applications received and approvals granted through the online tint waiver portal. During one such early morning audit, staff discovered three additional tint waiver approvals that had not been authorised the previous day. An investigation into those approvals led directly to the NDMA employees.

Minister Walrond noted that the Ministry of Home Affairs had submitted the tint waiver application portal to the NDMA for security checks before its launch, making the breach by its own staff particularly concerning.

“The breach undermined the integrity of the entire system,” she said, adding that swift action was taken against the two young men.

The incident comes just days before new vehicle tint regulations take full effect on April 1, 2026. Under the new rules, persons may apply online for a tint waiver for various approved reasons, with applicants being updated on the status of their applications through the same portal.

Criminal charges against the former NDMA employees are expected to be filed shortly.
