A tragic incident occurred on Saturday when two-year-old Samirah Evans drowned in the Upper Pomeroon River.

According to a police release, preliminary investigations revealed that around 12:30 PM, the child was at home with her mother but was later discovered missing. Relatives and community residents conducted a search for the girl.
At approximately 5:30 PM, Samirah’s body was found floating in the Pomeroon River near Warapana, roughly one mile from the Kabakaburi Mission landing.
Her body was retrieved and taken to the Oscar Joseph Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. The body is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event are ongoing.
