Unidentified Man Stabbed to Death

After Alleged Robbery in Vreed-en-Hoop

An unidentified man was fatally stabbed following an alleged robbery incident at the Vreed-en-Hoop Stelling, West Coast Demerara, on Wednesday around 6:00 PM.

According to reports from Police Headquarters, a 22-year-old bowman was attacked by the deceased, who allegedly threatened him with a knife and stole his passenger fare. The 22-year-old sustained injuries to his upper arm and back and subsequently sought treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

During the investigation, the 22-year-old claimed that he was able to wrest the knife away from the attacker and fatally stabbed him in self-defense. Following the incident, he was arrested and taken to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station for questioning.

A 56-year-old security guard at the Vreed-en-Hoop boathouse reported seeing the deceased walking away from the stelling, bleeding from his upper body. With the assistance of two others, the injured man was placed in a vehicle and transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Upon arrival, a police team examined the body and noted three stab wounds on both sides of the deceased’s upper body. The body has been transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, with police continuing to gather evidence and statements.
