Unidentified Pedestrian Dies in Montrose Accident

An unidentified pedestrian died early Monday morning following an accident on the Montrose Public Road, East Coast Demerara. The incident occurred around 4:00 AM and involved a motor car, PAC 8964, driven by a 24-year-old welder from Martyrsville, Mon Repos.

According to Police Headquarters, the car was traveling east when the pedestrian reportedly ran across the road from north to south, entering the vehicle’s path. The driver attempted to brake but could not avoid the collision, resulting in the pedestrian being thrown onto the roadway.

Emergency responders were called to the scene, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body has been taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary, awaiting identification and a post-mortem examination.

The driver initially left the scene but later returned and is now in custody, assisting with the investigation. Police have served a notice of intended prosecution, and the vehicle was inspected, with a breathalyzer test showing no alcohol consumption.
