Update: Fire at Church Hall in Lodge, Georgetown Now Deemed Arson
Following a detailed review of video surveillance footage and a further inspection of the electrical installation, the Guyana Fire Service has updated the cause of the fire that occurred on Sunday, June 1, 2025. The incident took place at Lot 27 Durban Street, Lodge, Georgetown, contrary to initial reports.

While early assessments suggested an electrical fault, the investigation now indicates that the fire was deliberately set. Surveillance footage shows a hooded individual entering the premises at approximately 04:48 hrs, shortly before the fire was reported.

The affected structure is a two-storey wooden and concrete building used as a church hall, owned by the Honourable Bishop Juan Edghill. The building and its contents sustained extensive damage.
The Guyana Fire Service is working closely with the Guyana Police Force in the ongoing investigation. Individuals found responsible will face the full brunt of the law.
