Police are investigating a tragic road accident that claimed the life of a male driver early Sunday morning on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway. The collision occurred around 2:00 AM at Hill Foot and involved a motorcar with registration number PLL 7365 and a lorry, GAE 5944.

The driver of the motorcar, identified as 22-year-old Sherwin James from Moblissa Village, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. Two other occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries and were transported to the Diamond Regional Hospital for treatment.
According to police reports, the 61-year-old lorry driver, Sewarran Latchman of Sand Road, Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, stated that he was driving westbound when he noticed two headlights approaching at high speed in his lane. In an attempt to avoid a collision, he swerved left and applied the brakes, but the motorcar struck the right front side of the lorry.
Emergency services responded promptly, but the impact proved fatal for James. Tragically, one of the occupants of the motorcar, identified only as Alex, also succumbed to his injuries.
The remains of both deceased have been taken to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, awaiting post-mortem examinations. A breathalyser test conducted on Latchman showed no trace of alcohol.
Investigators from the Guyana Police Force are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
