Update: Truck Driver and Owner to Be Charged in Fatal BJDRB Accident

NCN Guyana Reports | A truck driver is scheduled to appear before the Diamond Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning in connection with the fatal accident that occurred today on the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge.

Police have confirmed that both the driver of the truck and the owner of the motor lorry will face charges following the crash, which resulted in the tragic death of 24-year-old taxi driver Scott Jacob Dorwart and left several others injured.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:45 AM when motor lorry GAC 296, transporting cement, reportedly lost control while traveling west on the bridge. The truck subsequently rolled backward at high speed into oncoming traffic, striking six vehicles before coming to a halt.

The critically injured victim has been identified as 23-year-old Anand John of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara, who was an occupant in the vehicle driven by the now deceased Dorwart. He remains under medical care.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
