A 29-year-old vendor, Ishmel Lewis, has been granted release on $150,000 bail for the charge of discharging a loaded firearm with intent. Lewis, a resident of Lot 194 Grove Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The indictable charge alleges that on April 21, 2025, at Plum Park South, Sophia, Georgetown, Lewis discharged a loaded firearm with the intent to harm or disfigure Carlton Williams.
Lewis was legally represented by attorney Stacy Goodings, who argued that her client denies the allegations and is not a flight risk. However, the prosecution expressed concerns regarding the defendant’s frequent visits to the complainant’s residence and noted the potential risk to Williams’ safety.
Magistrate McGusty granted bail but instructed Lewis to refrain from any contact with Williams. The case has been adjourned to August 8, 2025, for further proceedings.
