Vice President and General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Bharrat Jagdeo, addressed reports suggesting that the party was considering replacing Prime Minister Mark Phillips with Works Minister Juan Edghill as the Prime Ministerial candidate for the upcoming elections.

During a press conference, Jagdeo reaffirmed his support for Prime Minister Phillips, describing him as an invaluable asset to the PPP. He highlighted the strong momentum gained by the Ali-Phillips team, stating, “Mark is an asset to this party… He brings great credibility to our list and to our ticket.”
Jagdeo emphasized that there was never any doubt about Phillips returning as the party’s Prime Ministerial candidate. He praised Phillips for his service to the country and the credibility he has brought to the PPP.
“He shall be our Prime Ministerial Candidate… We don’t make decisions one day and change it another day,” he asserted, contrasting the PPP’s stability with the perceived indecision of the opposition parties, APNU and AFC.
Jagdeo expressed confidence in Phillips’s leadership, stating, “Mark Phillips has been a great Prime Minister for this country… He walks around this country with pride, and we are proud of him.”
Describing the circulating information as mere “rumours,” Jagdeo cautioned his supporters to expect more misinformation as the elections approach. He urged the public not to be misled by such claims, reinforcing the party’s commitment to its current leadership.
