In light of recent promotions announced by President Dr. Irfaan Ali, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has confirmed that all eligible police officers will receive their due promotions. Approximately 2,800 officers will be elevated across various ranks, including promotions from Constable to Lance Corporal, Lance Corporal to Corporal, Corporal to Sergeant, and Sergeant to Inspector.

Jagdeo reported that around 2,000 officers have already been notified of their promotions, with the remaining officers set to receive their notifications soon.
During a press conference on Thursday, Jagdeo addressed concerns raised by some police ranks who feared they might be overlooked for promotions. He reassured them that “everyone who is eligible will receive the promotions.”
For officers who feel aggrieved or believe they have been bypassed, Jagdeo stated there will be a review process. If the review determines that an officer qualifies for promotion, that individual will be promoted accordingly.
President Ali announced these promotions last week, along with a commitment to restore pride and dignity to the Guyana Police Force. He emphasized that officers will no longer have to “beg for water,” highlighting the government’s pledge to provide the necessary resources for effective policing.
