Following President Irfaan Ali’s outline of the government’s development plan for the next five years, Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo addressed the nation, assuring citizens that a range of supportive measures will be introduced.

At a press conference on Thursday held at the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) headquarters, Jagdeo emphasized the government’s “strategic vision” for prosperity, which includes economic diversification, job creation, and income generation.
Acknowledging the needs of vulnerable groups, he stated, “We want them, through direct interventions, to become prosperous in our country, wherever they live.” Jagdeo highlighted that there would be a significant focus on rural and hinterland development to ensure equitable growth across the nation.
Regarding public sector workers, the Vice President assured that salary increases would remain a priority. He reminded the public that an 8% salary increase was granted this year following discussions with the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU).
In terms of financial support, Jagdeo mentioned the government will continue distributing cash grants, though he noted these funds represent just a fraction of the administration’s overall support strategy.
On Wednesday, President Ali announced plans to include a $100,000 cash grant for every Guyanese adult in the upcoming Budget 2025, which is set to be presented in January 2026. This initiative is part of the government’s broader commitme
