In a Recent Statement the Vigilant Political Action Committee Wrote : Following President Irfaan Ali’s nearly three-hour national address, public outrage has surged, particularly regarding his unfulfilled promise of a cash grant. Yet, the Vigilant Political Action Committee (VPAC) warns that this single controversy may distract from more pressing national matters that require attention.

Much of the discontent stems from families not receiving the promised support. VPAC acknowledges this valid disappointment, emphasizing that a commitment was made to the public that must be addressed.
While the outrage is palpable, the initiatives presented by the President during his speech merit careful analysis. If implemented successfully, these plans could address foundational issues, ultimately reducing the nation’s reliance on temporary assistance like cash grants. Recognizing the potential of these initiatives does not excuse the broken promise; rather, it highlights the complexity of governance, which requires balancing accountability with the acknowledgment of successes.
Unfortunately, discussions have largely shifted to the nature of the address—its delivery and the absence of opposition members in Parliament. While these aspects are important, an overemphasis on them may inadvertently benefit those already in power, detracting from deeper issues at stake.
“Excessive energy is being spent on presentation rather than substance,” VPAC notes. One side appears to plan strategically while the other reacts without a cohesive approach, risking significant setbacks for the nation.
VPAC remains committed to prioritizing what truly matters: ensuring that citizens receive the promised support and that all commitments are fulfilled. They stress the necessity for all promises made to the Guyanese people to be tracked, monitored, and honored.
Leadership involves more than merely responding to public sentiment; it’s about ensuring the future of the nation by enforcing transparency, sustainability, and concrete results. Citizens are urged to stay informed and demand accountability from their leaders—not just concerning one unfulfilled promise but for each commitment made.
