Wanted Man Arrested in Region #7

Police have apprehended wanted fugitive Elijah Batista Clarke, a male Guyanese miner, during an investigation into an alleged wounding incident at Sandhill Backdam.

Clarke was on the run after escaping lawful custody from Vigilance Police Station on July 24, 2024. Following nearly a year of evasion, he was arrested while police were investigating a wounding incident involving Mariana Sanchez, a 30-year-old Venezuelan national.

The altercation occurred on June 16, 2025, around 3:30 AM at Sandhill Landing. Reports indicate that Clarke, under the influence of alcohol, confronted Sanchez and her male companion, demanding $15,000. When the companion refused, Clarke assaulted him and then attacked Sanchez with a bottle, causing visible injuries.

While public-spirited citizens initially apprehended Clarke, he managed to escape into nearby bushes. However, police later spotted him in the Sandhill district and pursued him. Upon his arrest, officers searched his haversack and discovered 24 ziplock parcels containing leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be marijuana, totaling 27.5 grams.

The victim positively identified Clarke as her attacker, confirming that he did not steal anything from her or her companion. Clarke was taken to Bartica Police Station, where the narcotics were officially weighed in his presence.

Further checks revealed that Clarke is still wanted for his previous escape from custody. He remains in police custody at Bartica Police Station as investigations continue.
