WIN Condemns Political Persecution of Presidential Candidate Azruddin Mohamed

  • News

The Executive of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party has strongly condemned the violation of the rights of its leader and presidential candidate, Azruddin Mohamed. On the night of July 16, 2025, members of the Guyana Police Force, armed with high-powered weapons, unlawfully entered private property seeking to speak with Mr. Mohamed. Despite requests to present a warrant, none was provided.

Before approaching the premises, police officers misled security guards by falsely claiming they were there to visit other residents, subsequently forcing private security personnel to open the gates. This reckless abuse of power instilled fear among family members, staff, and onlookers present during the incident.

WIN is sending a clear message to the political directorate: they will not be intimidated. The party denounces these fear-mongering tactics that aim to silence dissent. They urge the Guyana Police Force to refrain from being weaponized against political opponents of the ruling party.

The party views this incident as a blatant act of political persecution targeting their presidential candidate. WIN plans to raise the issue with international observer missions currently in Guyana, emphasizing that democracy should be measured not just on election day, but by the treatment of political opponents leading up to it.

WIN calls on the observer missions to take note of these developments and to intervene as necessary to preserve the integrity of the electoral process. They urge the Guyanese people to become vigilant guardians of democracy, to document and speak out against intimidation, and to ensure that the future of the country is determined by justice, dignity, and the right to choose leaders freely.
