WIN Calls for Nationwide Boycott
In a powerful statement issued on August 1, 2025, the political party We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) has raised concerns about the alarming erosion of democratic rights in Guyana. The party emphasizes that the sense of solidarity among citizens is increasingly threatened by a government that has transformed from a governing body into a tyrannical force.

WIN’s statement highlights the foundational principles of democracy—freedom of expression, the right to dissent, and the right to contest elections—as sacred rights that must never be compromised. The party accuses the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) government of employing state-sponsored intimidation and punitive measures against those who challenge its authority.
“Tyranny begins with fear,” the statement notes, warning that when individuals are afraid to express their opinions or when their livelihoods are threatened based on political affiliations, democracy is at risk.
The party further alleges that the PPP/C has weaponized the private sector to suppress dissent. Recent actions by two commercial banks—Demerara Bank and the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI)—to cancel the accounts of WIN candidates have been labeled as a calculated attack against legitimate political opposition.
WIN argues that these banking actions represent a violation of the Constitution of Guyana, which guarantees freedom of association and political participation. “These banks have become corporate footstools of the PPP/C regime,” the statement declares, emphasizing that the political climate has reached a point where corporate entities are complicit in suppressing dissent.
In response to these developments, WIN is calling for a nationwide boycott of the implicated banks as well as other corporations perceived as supporting the government’s oppressive tactics. The boycott list includes Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), KFC, and Pizza Hut, among others.
WIN urges all Guyanese—regardless of race or class—to stand in solidarity against creeping authoritarianism. “If we do not act now, we may soon find ourselves in a nation where elections are a farce and opposition is criminalized,” the party warns.
WIN concludes its statement with a resolute commitment: “We will not back down. We will not be bullied. We will not be silenced.” The call to action is clear: the fight for democracy and individual freedoms in Guyana is far from over.
