Kaieteur News : Omeana Mars, a make-up artist from Sandvoort Village, is living in fear after being sexually assaulted by Jamal La Fleur, a family acquaintance. Despite reporting the incident to law enforcement, she feels neglected as La Fleur continues to harass her after being acquitted due to inconsistencies in witness statements.
Mars described the assault, which occurred after she returned home one night. La Fleur entered her room while she was preparing for bed and assaulted her while her niece was present. After a struggle, he escaped, leaving behind evidence that was submitted to the police.
Despite this, La Fleur was found not guilty, leading Mars to lose faith in the justice system. Recently, he returned to her home, taunting her and provoking her family. She has reported these incidents to the police but feels no action has been taken.
Now considering a restraining order, Mars remains uncertain about her safety and the effectiveness of the legal protections available to her.
