2020 Election Fraud Trial: Lenox Shuman Testifies on Vote Tampering

News

The 2020 election fraud trial resumed this week with testimony from former Liberty and Justice Party (LJP) Presidential Candidate Lenox Shuman, who described witnessing alleged tampering with the Region Four vote tabulation during the March 2, 2020 elections.

Testifying at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, Shuman recounted his objections to irregularities at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) Command Centre. He claimed to have seen former GECOM staffer Enrique Livan using a computer to generate a spreadsheet filled with “pre-populated numbers” for Region Four, which he believed could replace official Statements of Poll (SOPs).

Shuman recalled a chaotic scene on March 3, 2020, where some counting agents suggested using a spreadsheet instead of SOPs. He insisted on following official procedures, noting discrepancies between the announced numbers and the SOPs. He alleged that Livan manipulated data using a flash drive and collected printed papers as evidence.

He also testified that Region Four Returning Officer Clairmont Mingo attempted to declare results prematurely on March 5, despite incomplete tabulations.

Under cross-examination, Shuman faced questions about his authority to comment on the SOPs. Nine individuals, including former Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield and others, are charged with conspiring to manipulate the results in favor of the APNU+AFC coalition.

Defendant Carol Smith-Joseph was granted an extension by the High Court to remain overseas for medical treatment. The trial is set to continue on Wednesday.
