A police corporal sustained stab wounds after allegedly being attacked by two men while responding to a violent street altercation early Friday morning in Mahdia. The incident occurred around 1:45 AM at 111 Miles, Mahdia, according to reports from Police Headquarters.

Preliminary investigations indicate that ranks from the Mahdia Police Station were dispatched following reports of a disturbance on Mahdia Primary School Street. Upon arrival, officers observed several individuals engaged in a violent confrontation. Despite being ordered to cease, the individuals reportedly ignored commands and began throwing objects at the police and their vehicle.
During efforts to restore order, the police corporal was assaulted by two men, one of whom was armed with a sharp instrument. During the ensuing struggle, the corporal sustained stab wounds to his lower abdomen and right arm. In an attempt to protect himself, the officer discharged his service weapon, injuring one of the suspects.
The injured suspect, a 22-year-old pork-knocker from Campbelltown Village, along with the wounded corporal, was transported to the Mahdia District Hospital. A pair of scissors and two 9mm spent shells were recovered at the scene and lodged as evidence.
The injured suspect remains under police guard, while no other arrests have been made at this time. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
