Miguel, who left home for work on Monday night, was found dead in the Essequibo River on Wednesday. Family members reported horrifying signs of violence on his body, including missing eyes, broken teeth, burn marks on his face and stomach, and indications that his hair had also been singed.
Initial reports suggest a robbery occurred at Miguel’s workplace, where suspects allegedly made off with five 75 HP outboard engines. In response, police are currently engaged in an investigation, with hopes that the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.
Residents and local business owners have expressed growing concerns about safety in the area. Many allege that the torture may have been perpetrated by Spanish-speaking men believed to be Venezuelan nationals. There are reports of increased petty thefts and robberies in the vicinity, particularly targeting truck drivers waiting to board ferries at night.
