The fire broke out at approximately 16:30 hours at a two-bedroom wooden and concrete house in Wash Clothes, Mahaicony. Kushpaul Sharma told reporters he was asleep when he was alerted by the smell of smoke. Upon checking, he discovered his home was already on fire and, with no other means of escape, used a pillow to break a glass window before jumping out.

“He sustained minor injuries from the fall,” Sharma said, noting that his wife and four children were also at home at the time. All five family members escaped without serious injury.

The family, however, lost everything. Sharma said all of their belongings — including important documents — were destroyed in the blaze. He said he is currently unable to estimate the full extent of his losses and is considering his next steps.

According to information received, the fire may not have been accidental. Reports indicate that an ongoing family dispute escalated, allegedly leading a relative to maliciously set the house on fire. An investigation into the cause of the blaze is currently underway.
