A 29-year-old vendor of Charity Back Street, Essequibo Coast, was fined and ordered to complete community service after pleading guilty to a drug trafficking charge at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

Von Tobin was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to Section 5 (1) (a) (i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, Chapter 10:10, following the discovery of 36.2 grams of cannabis in his possession.
He appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, where the charge was read to him. Tobin pleaded guilty to the offence.
The court imposed a fine of $31,500 and ordered him to complete 90 hours of community service within one month at the Charity Police Station. Failure to comply will result in six months’ imprisonment.
The sentence reflects a balanced approach combining financial penalties with community service, giving the offender the opportunity to make amends while facing consequences for his actions.
