Authorities have launched an investigation into the death of 53-year-old Cuban national Wilbur Fonseca, whose body was discovered on the railway embankment in Coldingen, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday morning.
Fonseca, who resided in Eccles on the East Bank of Demerara, was found lying face down on the southern side of the railway embankment. Crime scene investigators cordoned off the area to collect evidence.
Observers at the scene noted several troubling details:
Physical Signs: The victim was seen with blood around his mouth.
Evidence Distribution: While a black haversack was found next to the body, other personal items were scattered; his driver’s license was located approximately five feet away, and one of his shoes was discovered more than 20 feet from his body.
Clothing: Fonseca was dressed in long black track pants and a blue hoodie. A mobile phone was reportedly recovered from his pants pocket.
Police suspect that the death occurred at some point between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Investigators are currently awaiting the results of a post-mortem examination, which is expected to officially determine the cause of death and assist in clarifying the circumstances of this discovery.
