A celebratory hunting trip turned to tragedy this past weekend after 25-year-old Robindranauth “Robbie” Persaud of Zealand, Mahaicony, drowned in the Mahaica Creek.
Persaud had embarked on a hunting expedition last Friday alongside four friends. The group had planned the outing to secure wild game for a birthday celebration scheduled for one of the members. During the trip, the excursion took a devastating turn when Persaud reportedly fell into the waters of the Mahaica Creek and vanished beneath the surface.
Following his disappearance on Friday, a search was launched by those in the area; however, Persaud remained missing throughout the weekend. His body was eventually discovered washed ashore at Unity Beach on Sunday, two days after the initial accident.
The loss has deeply affected the Zealand and Mahaicony communities, where Persaud was a well-known figure. Friends and family are currently in mourning as they cope with the sudden loss of the young man.
