CPCE: Meet One of Our Brilliant Teacher Candidates – Miss Rebekah Francis

Cyril Potter College of Education Shared : From the heart of Region 9, Massara, Anai Centre, Miss Rebekah Francis recently delivered an inspiring presentation during her Math Pedagogy course, showcasing the essence of creativity, passion, and personal heritage in teaching.

“As part of my Mathematics and Pedagogy course, I designed this interactive model to help teach the properties of 2D shapes in an engaging and hands-on way. The display includes six colorful shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, and hexagon, each accompanied by a matching description of its sides, vertices, and angles. What makes this model unique is its built-in LED light feature: when a student correctly matches a shape to its corresponding property, the LED lights up. If the match is incorrect, the light remains off. This interactive feature not only adds excitement but also provides immediate feedback, helping students learn through trial and error.”

Miss Francis shared that her inspiration for including the electrical component came from her father, an electrician. Growing up, she developed basic electrical skills by watching and assisting him, and she wanted to use that knowledge to bring math concepts to life.

“By combining creativity, technical skills, and educational theory, this project reflects my goal of making learning mathematics both meaningful and memorable for young learners.”

Miss Francis’ project exemplifies how passion, family influence, and pedagogical excellence can converge to create powerful learning experiences.

She was joined by two equally talented colleagues: Miss Gillian Thomas (Region 9) and Miss Melissa Liverpool (Region 7), who also contributed to the vibrant discussions on innovative teaching methods.
