Police Investigate Fatal Accident in Corentyne

Authorities are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at approximately 5:40 PM on the Dun Robin Public Road, resulting in the death of 35-year-old Tameshwar Sukhcharan, a resident of Albion, Berbice.

The accident involved a motor pick-up, GAK 1990, driven by 30-year-old Andrew Johnson from Lamaha Park, Georgetown, and an unidentified motorcycle operated by Sukhcharan. Additionally, a parked motor lorry (GLL 9958) owned by a 47-year-old man from Yakusari, Bush Polder, was also involved.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Johnson’s pick-up was traveling east along the road at a high rate of speed when he attempted to overtake another vehicle. In doing so, he collided head-on with Sukhcharan’s motorcycle, which was coming from the opposite direction.

The impact flung Sukhcharan into a nearby trench, resulting in severe injuries to his head and other parts of his body. Following the collision, the pick-up also struck the parked lorry on the southern parapet.

Public-spirited citizens pulled Sukhcharan from the trench and rushed him to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Sukhcharan’s body has been transferred to the Arokium Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, Johnson, the driver of the pick-up, sustained injuries including a fractured femur and body abrasions. He has been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where his condition is reported to be stable.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
