AFC Addresses Endorsements, Affirms 2025 Election Focus Amidst Coalition Talk Speculation

The Alliance For Change (AFC) has recently addressed questions concerning endorsements of President Ali by individuals formerly associated with the party. The AFC reaffirmed its commitment to preparing for the 2025 national elections and clarified its stance on coalition talks, explicitly denying any engagements with Mohamed’s team.

David Patterson, a Member of Parliament for the AFC, reiterated the party’s consistent position on potential coalition discussions, stating that the AFC is “preparing quite assiduously for elections 2025.” He emphasized that previous statements regarding coalition talks with the APNU remain valid, with “the final nail” always being nomination day.

Nigel Hughes, leader of the Alliance For Change, acknowledged the recent endorsements of President Ali by former party members, including Mr. Daniels and Mr. Muhammad from Region 5. Hughes expressed gratitude for their service to the party but questioned the validity of the reasons provided for their departures and subsequent endorsements of the President.

Specifically, Hughes cited Mr. Daniels’ claim of losing confidence due to an alleged failure to repair a road in front of a relative’s home during the APNU+AFC coalition’s term from 2015 to 2020. Hughes indicated that checks with former Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson and the local government minister yielded no recollection of such a request from Mr. Daniels. Furthermore, he stated that he had never received any indication of dissatisfaction from Mr. Daniels regarding the coalition’s performance or the specific road issue. The AFC, he added, would not prioritize roads for party members but would implement a national policy with transparent criteria for infrastructure development.

Regarding Mr. Muhammad from Region 5, Hughes noted that he had met with him only once or twice, and on neither occasion did Muhammad express dissatisfaction. In fact, Hughes recalled Muhammad being “very happy with the new leadership” shortly after its election. He concluded that the stated reasons for leaving did not “amount to a lack of confidence” in the AFC’s leadership. Hughes emphasized that individuals are free to change their minds and endorse those they believe represent their best interests, urging the electorate to “scrutinize the reasons, the timing, and perhaps the motivations for their decisions.” He also drew a parallel to the US election, referencing Taylor Swift’s endorsement of Kamala Harris to illustrate that celebrity endorsements do not always guarantee a specific electoral outcome.

Addressing claims of the AFC working with Mohamed’s team, Hughes was unequivocal, stating that there are “no engagements whatsoever with the Mohameds.” He noted that both Mr. Mohamed and the AFC Chairman had publicly confirmed this position.
