Annandale Labourer Remanded on Robbery and Property Damage Charges

A 25-year-old labourer from Annandale New Scheme, Kumar Persaud, was remanded to prison on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, following his appearance at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.

Persaud faces charges in connection with an incident occurring on May 27, 2026, at Mon Repos Market Road, where he allegedly targeted a 30-year-old man from Mon Repos.

Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse read two charges to the defendant:

Robbery Under Arms: Contrary to Section 222(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Malicious Damage to Property: Contrary to Section 160 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.

Persaud entered a not guilty plea regarding the robbery charge. Regarding the malicious damage charge, he entered a guilty with explanation plea.

Magistrate Nurse denied bail on both counts, ordering that Persaud be remanded to prison. The legal proceedings for both matters have been adjourned until July 20, 2026.
