Alvin Parag, a 49-year-old businessman from Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, was arrested on September 19 and charged today with Trafficking in Persons.

Parag is accused of committing the offense against a 31-year-old female foreign national between March 29 and June 7, 2025, in Diamond, East Bank Demerara. He appeared before Senior Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Diamond Magistrate Court, where he pleaded ‘not guilty’ to the charges.
During the proceedings, the prosecutor strongly objected to bail, which was subsequently denied. Parag was remanded to prison as the case progresses.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 6, 2025, for statements and disclosure. The Guyana Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to combatting trafficking in persons in all forms, working closely with various stakeholders to address this critical issue.
