Businessman Granted Bail After Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident

Paul Mahabal, a 33-year-old businessman, has been granted $100,000 bail following a tragic incident that led to the death of 16-year-old Kimberley Jones in Bel Air Village, West Coast Berbice. Mahabal appeared for the second time at the Weldaad Magistrates Court recently.

He faces charges of failing to render assistance and failing to stop after a hit-and-run incident that occurred on July 8, 2025. Legal authorities have indicated that Mahabal is also expected to face additional charges of causing death by dangerous driving, pending further legal advice on the case file.

Mahabal’s next court appearance is scheduled for August 8, 2025, at the Weldaad Magistrates Court, where further proceedings will take place. The community continues to mourn the loss of Kimberley Jones as the case unfolds.
