An inquest will provide a vital opportunity to give voice to the circumstances surrounding this incident. It will also allow a jury of five individuals to approach their task objectively and dispassionately, representing the broader community of Essequibo, Guyana.

There is no doubt that this death has profoundly affected many individuals. An inquest will facilitate a public examination of the circumstances leading to her passing, enabling the jury to draw conclusions based on all evidence presented.

What Do We Know So Far?

Three respected international pathologists conducted a postmortem examination of Ms. Younge’s body.

A second postmortem was performed by an additional pathologist.

A retired Canadian police officer reviewed the investigation conducted by the Guyana Police Force and submitted a report to the relevant authorities.

Next Steps

The various reports will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions. Given the nature of this case, a Coroner’s Inquest is mandatory.

This inquest will not only seek to uncover the truth but also provide closure for the community and honor Adriana Younge’s memory.
