Next Court Appearance Scheduled
More than four months after being charged with the brutal murder of his partner, Kenesha Vaughn, city businessman Marlan DaSilva remains on remand and is set to make his next court appearance on July 10.

The case was called on Tuesday before Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court. DaSilva is currently awaiting a preliminary inquiry (PI), a judicial hearing held in the Magistrate’s Court for serious offenses such as murder. This process is not a trial but rather a review of evidence to determine if there is enough to commit the case for trial.
In DaSilva’s case, the PI is being conducted via a “paper committal,” where the magistrate reviews written evidence and arguments instead of conducting a traditional in-person hearing. For this process to proceed, the defense must file statements from witnesses involved in the case.
DaSilva is accused of killing Vaughn on the evening of February 22 at their home in Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, shortly after returning from an outing. According to police reports, an argument ensued during which DaSilva allegedly slapped Vaughn. In retaliation, Vaughn reportedly reached for a knife and approached him.
At that moment, DaSilva allegedly pulled out his licensed firearm and discharged several rounds in Vaughn’s direction, striking her multiple times. Police were later contacted, and Vaughn was taken to the Diamond Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment. The incident was recorded on CCTV footage, which has since been admitted as evidence in the case.
