Minister of Housing Collin Croal has confirmed that contractors responsible for infrastructure works in sections of Blocks 1 and 7 of the Diamond Housing Scheme have been terminated for under performance.

The affected areas include lots 493–677 in Block One — which comprises 1,018 lots in total — and lots 31–220 in Block Seven, which contains 725 lots. The terminations follow what the Minister described as “hiccups” in the delivery of necessary infrastructure.

Speaking during a site inspection on Thursday, Minister Croal said the Ministry has retendered the affected contracts and that the tender process is currently ongoing. He said tenders are expected to open by the second week of March, with awards and remobilisation of contractors to follow before the end of the month.

“We have since retendered, the tender is ongoing, and its opening by the second week of March and before the month (March) is finish to have the necessary retendering of those contracts so we can have the necessary infrastructure work done quickly as possible,” Croal said.

Once new contracts are awarded, successful contractors will mobilise to recommence infrastructure works. Croal stressed that the Diamond Scheme is one of several projects on the East Bank of Demerara and underscored the Ministry’s focus on accelerating infrastructure delivery for allocated lands across the area.

The Ministry of Housing also said it will maintain transparency with affected allottees, keeping them informed so they can track when access to their plots becomes available.

Minister Croal was accompanied on the site visit by Minister within the Ministry of Housing Vanessa Benn.
