Deputy Commissioner of Police Affirms Zero Tolerance for Corruption in the Force

  • News

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration) Ravindradat Budhram has reiterated the Guyana Police Force’s commitment to eradicating rogue behavior and corruption within its ranks. During a recent episode of the ‘Safeguarding Our Nation’ program, Budhram acknowledged public concerns regarding misconduct among police officers but emphasized that the majority of officers are dedicated professionals committed to serving the public.

“While there are some rogue elements in the force, the majority of the officers are ‘good’ officers and they are here to serve the public,” he stated. Budhram highlighted that the Police Force takes allegations of corruption very seriously and ensures that all officers receive training on integrity and ethics at every level of the organization.

In response to concerns about misconduct, Budhram assured the public that allegations are thoroughly investigated by the Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR). “If there is an allegation of misconduct, our office would investigate, and after advice is sought, action is taken,” he said.

He noted that several officers have been arrested recently in connection with misconduct, with these cases currently before the court. “At no time at all will the force tolerate misconduct and turn a blind eye on them,” Budhram affirmed.

Looking ahead, he expressed a commitment to institutionalizing a zero-tolerance policy for corruption within the force. “We are working to build a professional force,” he concluded, reinforcing the importance of integrity in law enforcement.
