Four Persons in Custody

Police conducted an intelligence-led operation yesterday that successfully thwarted a planned robbery at a Chinese supermarket in New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Around 2:00 PM on June 27, 2025, two motor cars traveling from Georgetown were intercepted by a Senior Police Officer and other ranks at the Berbice River Bridge access road. Four males, aged between 18 and 29, from Georgetown are currently in custody and assisting the police.

During the operation, officers discovered a .38 revolver hidden in a compartment beneath the steering wheel of one of the vehicles, along with five matching rounds of ammunition.

Investigations are ongoing.
