Five Women Charged with Assault in Bartica

News

Five female residents of Byderabo Road, Bartica, have been charged with the offence of ‘Assault Causing Actual Bodily Harm’ following an incident involving another local resident.

The accused—Evelyn Dalgetty, 47; Pauline Smith, 54; Alicia Ault, 26; Atalya Dalgetty, 22; and Serina Williams, 22—were arrested on August 27, 2025, by a Detective Corporal from the Bartica Police Station. The charges were formally laid on August 29, 2025, under Section 30(a) of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 08:01.

The women appeared in the Bartica Magistrate’s Court at 10:15 AM before His Worship Teriq Mohamed, where the charges were read to them. All five defendants pleaded not guilty and were subsequently released on self-bail. The case has been adjourned until October 3, 2025, for further proceedings.

The assault charge stems from an incident involving Grace James, although details surrounding the altercation remain unclear at this time.

Social media reactions have been mixed, with some users making light of the situation while others expressed concerns about the implications of the charges, especially in the context of the upcoming elections. One commenter remarked, “I told you guys the PPP will lock you up just before the elections,” reflecting a sentiment of mistrust towards the local authorities.

As the case unfolds, the community remains watchful of its developments, particularly given the charges and their potential impact on the individuals involved.
