News Source Guyana Reports : A new digital media entity, “Kiskadee Watch,” is set to launch this coming Sunday, marking a significant development for the Guyanese media landscape following the closure of the long-standing Stabroek News in March 2026.

The new outlet will be led by former Stabroek News Editor-in-Chief Anand Persaud and will be supported by a team of journalists drawn from the defunct publication’s former staff.

According to a formal statement, Kiskadee Watch was established by a group of Guyanese stakeholders, both locally and internationally, in response to concerns regarding the void in credible, independent reporting created by the departure of Stabroek News.

The organization’s mission is to:

Reestablish a trusted, independent, fact-based news institution in Guyana.

Safeguard editorial freedom.

Strengthen democratic discourse.

While the platform will launch as a digital-first operation, organizers have announced plans to produce a high-quality weekly printed newspaper before the end of 2026.

Kiskadee Watch is overseen by a steering committee that includes prominent figures such as Janette Bulkan, Rhett Gordon, Jocelyne Josiah, GHK Lall, Cheryl Springer, and Alissa Trotz.

The entity intends to adopt a unique financing model inspired by international media outlets like the UK’s Guardian and the United States’ National Public Radio (NPR). The model will rely on share ownership and contributions from individuals, foundations, civil society organizations, and the business sector.

In their statement, the organizers emphasized the financial challenges of maintaining independent journalism and have issued an invitation for support from Guyanese, the wider Caribbean diaspora, and all stakeholders committed to press freedom and public accountability.
