Guyana Police Force Reports : Fatal Accident Claims Lives of Two Motorcyclists in Berbice

The Guyana Police Force is investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Sunday, June 15, 2025, on the Fort Canje public road, resulting in the deaths of two motorcyclists.

The victims have been identified as Junior Malcolm Matthews (DOB: October 7, 1999) of Sheet Anchor, East Canje, and Stephen Tiloo (DOB: September 29, 1995) of Reliance Settlement, East Canje. At the time of the incident, Matthews was riding motorcycle JSP 1, while Tiloo was on motorcycle CP 768.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that around 8:55 PM, Tiloo was traveling north at a high speed when he collided with Matthews, who was also riding at a fast pace in the opposite direction. Both motorcyclists fell onto the roadway and sustained severe injuries. Notably, neither was wearing safety helmets at the time of the collision.

Witnesses reported that they were quickly transported to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by good Samaritans, but both were pronounced dead on arrival.

The bodies of Matthews and Tiloo are currently at the hospital’s mortuary, pending post-mortem examinations. The police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
