NCN Guyana Reports : Family members, friends, and residents gathered in grief and solidarity on Thursday to bid a final farewell to seven-year-old Isabella Dabidyal, whose tragic death has shaken the entire nation.
The child was laid to rest during an emotional funeral service at Kilcoy, Corentyne, Berbice, marked by prayers, heartfelt tributes, and an overwhelming outpouring of support for her grieving relatives. Mourners remembered Isabella as a cheerful and loving little girl whose life was cut devastatingly short.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that Isabella died as a result of manual strangulation. The incident, which occurred on April 5, 2026, allegedly involved her mother, 26-year-old Sarah Shivpersaud, who has since been discharged from hospital and is currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.
According to police, the tragic events unfolded after Shivpersaud was reportedly overwhelmed following her husband’s departure from the home several days prior. Authorities have indicated that a file will be prepared and submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice, paving the way for formal charges to be laid.
Isabella’s one-year-old brother, who survived the incident, is now in the care of his grandmother and is reported to be in good health.
The tragedy has sparked widespread mourning across Guyana and renewed urgent calls for greater mental health awareness and support systems — particularly for vulnerable families in crisis.
